They go running, Grey grinning, until they find a quiet alley corner.

Crouching, he opens his box. Biscuits! Bacon! Oh, how his mouth waters.

Rat grins and gestures at him to dig in, tipping his head. "Ever had this stuff before?" Living on a train it sounds like they wouldn't have had a full array of foods. That was one of the lucky things about he West District.

Just here; Grey points to the ground, to here. He picks up a biscuit and takes a big bite.

Oh, yes.

It's a crossroads of adorable and pitiable, a look that Rat's seen on many a face in the West District, the look of someone who's only getting used to good meals after a lifetime without.

It takes him a moment to stop admiring his face, to remember to eat.

Oh, there should be no pity in this moment. Grey is enjoying his food too much. He takes a bite of the bacon and silently moans again.

Delicious.

Wait, what is this? A small container in the box, which he opens. A grey jelly like substance.

He sticks his finger in it and licks it.

Ohhhh.

Rat understands the feeling too well not to.

"It's gravy. They cook meat drippings with flour." He's made it himself, on the occasions that he has meat fatty enough.

Gravy?

Grey knits his brows at his lover (lover, lover, lover .... ). What should he do with this gravy?

Rat creeps closer, hand brushing across Grey's as he takes a piece of his own biscuit and dips it in the gravy to show him. Putting it in his mouth, he waits for Grey.

Rip, dip bite - ohhhh.

Grey chews slowly, savoring the saltiness, the richness of the flavors.

This is his new favorite meal.

Rat watches him sidelong, smiling a moment, before reaching over to swipe his thumb across Grey's mouth. "You missed some."

A flash of movement and Grey has Rat's wrist, so that he can catch that thumb and lick it clean.

He would hate for any of that delicious gravy to be wasted.

He watches Grey's face, his mouth, transfixed for a moment. It's all too easy, after this morning, to imagine what else Grey can do.

Giving in to the sentimentality he's rarely allowed himself, he leans forward to kiss Grey's mouth.

Grey doesn't let go of Rat's wrist as they kiss; the kiss is sweeter than the food, as good as it was, and he lingers there in it, his eyes falling closed.

This place is strange and faraway from everything he's known, but Rat thinks he could get used to it. He turns a little, lining up against Grey's side.

Thin shoulders pressed to Rat's, Grey eats every bit of his meal and it fills his belly, making him feel warm and good. He laces his fingers with the other boy's and looks at him. Does Rat need to go? To be somewhere else?

[plaguedrat]

No. No he doesn't. And even if he did, right now, Rat would put all of that aside.

There are few enough good things in life that he wants to grasp them where he can.

[silenttrainbaby]

Kissing Rat's knuckles where their hands are joined, Grey smiles. Today, then, Rat can show Grey what he likes, what he things Grey should see.

[plaguedrat]

Rat leans down around their hands, forehead to Grey's. However long he has this peace, he'll take it with him.

It starts to get busier in this area as people go to work. Grey urges Rat to rise and they can make their way back to where it is quieter, where they'll draw less attention. He cocks his head to meet Rat's eyes and raises his brow, then points to a word on his arm, where? Where should they go?

[plaguedrat]

Rat traces the letters with his fingertip, wondering where himself. They can go back to the grove (Their grove) or somewhere else entirely. It's all open to them.

"Do you need anything else?" More food, clothes. Whatever they can make theirs.

[silenttrainbaby]

No; he shakes his head. He has a full belly and his clothes are his clothes; he doesn't wish for anything else, aside from Rat.

[plaguedrat]

"Back?" To the grove and to...whatever they want of themselves.

[silenttrainbaby]

All right. Being as it's the work day, that is probably best, too. In the park, there are vendors with carts: ice cream, popcorn again, pretzels, a dizzying array of smells which make Grey wriggle his nose even if he just ate.

He moves quickly and smoothly past those, though, dodging amongst the mothers and their babies, the boys playing catch. He finds, now, that he doesn't like too many people about.

Rat follows, equally smooth and fast, not trusting other people on instinct and waiting for them to give him proof otherwise and sometimes not believing it, even then.

Grey has proven himself a fast exception.

Past the jogging track and over the brush to their spot. Grey throws himself down into the grass again with a smile.
